The Ribble Valley Jazz Festival 2010

The results of surveys conducted during the festival show that it has been a huge success. There is overwhelming response in respect of the quality of jazz, the structure and format of the festival, and a high demand for this to happen all over again next year.
There was an exciting line up of leading national and international jazz performers in the superb setting of the town of Clitheroe in the beautiful Ribble Valley.
The two main venues were The Grand, a state of the art performance centre, and The Atrium Cafe in the unique setting of the 12th century Norman Castle. Maps and directions can be found on the venue page of this website.

The programme of events ran as follows:


FRIDAY 30th APRIL



12.00 midday til 2.00pm. A special pre-festival Lunchtime Live from The Grand.

Henry Botham - Stride piano with percussion. Free Entry.

8.00pm - late ALAN BARNES and The Steve Berry Trio at The Atrium SOLD OUT

 

SATURDAY 1st MAY



2.00pm PAUL RIGBY and THE NORTHERN JAZZ ORCHESTRA with The John Wickham Trio and Tom Allonby at The Grand

8.00pm JACQUI DANKWORTH at The Grand SOLD OUT

 

SUNDAY 2nd MAY



12.00 midday. THE AL WOOD BIG BAND and St Christophers School Swing Band and St Augustines School Swing Band at The Grand

(Apologies - Page 7 in the brochure says Al Wood is on the Saturday but it is, as in the full listing and here, on the Sunday)

3.30pm THE PAUL RIGBY JAZZ QUARTET at The Atrium

8.00pm SIMON SPILLETT with The Steve Berry Trio at The Atrium

 

MONDAY 3rd MAY



2.00pm The Ribble Valley Jazz Festival wraps up with an explosive performance from Latin Jazz musicians Mas Y Mas. An irrestible meeting of Latino Flamenco, Afro-Cuban and Celtic influences, woven by driving dance rhythms.

This is your chance to dance.

At The Grand

 

In addition to these events, there was a free Saxophone Workshop conducted by Alan Barnes at The Grand on Friday 30th April at 5.00pm to 6.00pm.

Free Cafe Jazz was available from 12.30 midday to 2.00 pm at various cafes around Clitheroe, and Dinner Jazz from 6.00 to 7.30 pm so that you will never go without the jazz between the gigs. Details of these can be found in the brochure. Also, live jazz was performed in the outdoor areas around Clitheroe over the weekend.
