This years jazz festival is taking form, and we are busy "putting it together"
Already in the line up are :
Leading UK saxophone player Alan Barnes, who is to do a sax workshop as well as a gig.
Jazz vocalist Jacqui Dankworth.
Latin jazz party from Cuban Omar Puente, who is also doing a percussion workshop.
The one and only Northern Jazz Orchestra, who's leader Paul Rigby is currently working with The John Wickham Trio, and aspiring sax player 15 year old Tom Allonby in a series of workshops over the next 2 months, culminating in a performance with The Northern Jazz Orchestra at the festival.
Al Wood who recently thrilled us at The Atrium gig in Clitheroe Castle is currently working with the school bands of St Christophers in Accrington, and St Augustines in Billington, and both bands shall be appearing with the Al Wood Big Band at the festival.
There is lot's more being arranged, including lunchtime cafe jazz and evening dinner jazz around the town, some outdoor jazz, and workshops on playing techniques.
Compare that with the last Jazz Festival held in Clitheroe over 40 years ago.
Just refer to page 4 in the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times dated February 4th which includes the advertisement for that event in 1965.
