Youth Jazz Projects

We have made substantial progress on promoting various workshops for individual instruments, and for a band. For instance, Kevin Holbrough from Leeds, an experienced trombonist, lead at a workshop for 5 local young trombonists – a session that was fully appreciated by all participants! All told, we will have promoted group workshops for drummers, bassists, trumpeters, saxophonists, and pianists. We have also been able to support individual young people with support for bespoke masterclasses.

We organised leading saxophonist Alan Barnes to conduct a workshop during the 2010 Ribble Valley Jazz Festival.

Al Wood leading UK big band leader, gave workshop tuition over several months to two local school bands, St Christopher from Accrington, and St. Augustine from Billington, and this culminated in a performance at the 2010 Ribble Valley Jazz Festival.

Paul Rigby also gave workshop tuition to The John Wickham Trio and Tom Allonby, which resulted in a showcase of their talent at the Jazz Festival.

Having recently succeeded in gaining grants for promoting Youth Jazz, where did we go next?

Well, we set up two further workshops.

July 9th 2010. Paul Rigby Drum Workshop.

July 28th 2010. Greg Abate saxophone workshop.
