Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues was founded in 2007 following a meeting of people interested in playing and listening to live music. As the majority were listeners rather than players, it was decided to start initially with monthly gigs featuring bands principally from the North West. Over time bands were sourced from further afield with the help of Jazz North funding.

 

It was then decided that activity should be expanded by putting on a yearly festival in May beginning in 2010. This expanded successfully over a number of years. The Club then turned its attention to the role of players in the club, firstly in 2012 founding the Ribble Valley Jazz Collective (now known as Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band) followed by a smaller band - the Blue Funk Syndicate – in 2013. This was followed in succeeding years by the formation of the Improvisation Group and the monthly Jazz Jam.
