The trustees of Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues are responsible for the club’s governance and a charity, its long-term strategy, planning, and overall management. Their core duties focus on ensuring the organisation fulfils its mission, operates within the law, safeguards its assets, and manages resources effectively.

 

At present the Trustees are

John Drury (Chair)

John Drury - John is a retired Chartered Accountant, with over forty years experience of senior and financial management over the private and public sectors. He has been a charity trustee for over twenty years, involving community and cultural developments in music, sport and children and young people. Although not a musician himself, John has spent all his life listening to good music, mostly jazz and blues influenced, but covering most genres. He believes passionately in making good music more accessible, particularly younger people, in order to 'feed the soul'.

Phil Baugh (Treasurer)

Phil was one of the founder members of the Club back in 2007 with an interest in playing music. Having played alto sax and tenor sax for several years, he joined the Ribble Valley Jazz Big Band when it was formed in 2012. He has played in the band as lead tenor sax until 2026. He now plays tenor and alto in a small band Jazz Junction as well as participating in the Club’s Improvisation Group and acting as host at the Club’s very successful Jazz Jam at the Old School Rooms in Clitheroe. He is currently Acting Treasurer.

Rob Phillips

Robert first took up playing music when his sons were learning their instruments at school, and what began as a family interest is now an important part of his life. He enjoys playing in a number of different bands and has experienced first-hand the friendship and enjoyment that community music can bring. Robert became a trustee of Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues Club a year ago because he believes that live music should be available and welcoming to listeners and players across the Ribble Valley.

Sue Bradley

Sue has extensive experience of providing development and management support to a wide range of charities, as well as advocating and fund-raising for a number of causes relating to health and well-being. She has enjoys playing saxophone for the love of it. Sue has been able to increase her musical skills and understanding through many of the club’s community activities as well as with mentors and adult music schools. Her knowledge of the jazz world and its history has increased hugely due to working with the club’s programmers and musical associates.

Creative Forum

Following a review of club activities in 2026, Ribble Valley Jazz and Blues is aiming to develop a meaningful vehicle so that members of community music groups, partner organizations and  members  can contribute, even if they do not wish to become Trustees.
